'Maskne'

After eight months I am sure many of you are over wearing a mask.

{however, thank you for doing so to - it keeps us all safe}

Your skin has had it.

You’ve worked for years to clear up your skin and get your glow on, and now you have to cover it all up now. wth!?

Not only do you have to cover up your skin for hours a day (if you work outside the home) but you also have to deal with a whole new skin issue….maskne.

Seriously, what the hell??

If you are reading this and wondering what the heck is maskne?!? Have I missed something, am I that out of the loop!? If you don’t know what maskne is then consider yourself lucky.

Maskne essentially is acne or skin issues caused from wearing a mask for long periods of time.

Is there a natural remedy to help? Of course! That’s where I come in.

As a holistic nutrition pro I am here to fill you in on a few secret tips you can do daily to get rid of - or prevent the dreaded maskne.

First, wash your mask daily (especially if you wear makeup!!) or if you are using a disposable mask, use a new one every day.

Be sure to wash your face every night - or preferably when you get home from work. Literally, wash the day off.

I love tea tree cleansing pads (s/o Trader Joe’s). I use these after I cleanse my face to get rid of any remaining makeup, dirt or oil.

For years I have been using a diluted tea tree formula on my skin, and find that this is super helpful in dealing with/preventing maskne. I recommend mixing high quality tea tree oil and water in a small dark bottle and applying to your face with cotton pads daily. I use a highly concentrated formula on my skin twice a daily.

Something else I recently found and am LOVING is the Turmeric Tonic from COCOKIND It’s incredible for dealing with and preventing blemishes… side note, it has also helped me clear up some brown discolorations on my fair skin. Talk about a win-win!

The last and the best thing you can do for your skin in general - now this one applies to everyone. Is to eat an anti-inflammatory diet…I mean we are what we eat, right!? This mean limit anything that comes from a bag or box and eliminate fast food, fried food and greasy foods. Try to eat organic real whole foods in their natural state. #holisticnutrition

I hope these #leanandgreenbody tips help!!

Last month’s facial recipe had such a good response I decided to continue it this month!

After all our skin is our largest organ, and a healthy skincare routine is so crucial.

Here is a fun D.I.Y. facial you can create yourself at home!

Breakfast Facial

This facial recipe is designed to calm and tighten the skin, and remove excess oil.

* remember food allergies apply to your skin as well! I have a gluten allergy, so I always use gluten free oats for this recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg

  • 1 TBSP organic honey (local if possible)

  • 1 TBSP extra virgin olive oil

  • 1/2 Cup gluten free oatmeal

Directions:

  1. Mix 1 egg yolk, 1 TBSP honey, 1 TBSP olive oil and the 1/2 cup of oatmeal all together.

  2. Stir all ingredients very well together.

  3. Apply the mixture to your face, making sure to apply an even coat over the entire face, for 15-20 minutes.

  4. Wash face with warm water and wash cloth.

  5. Add your daily moisturizer and you are ready to go!

* side note = we recommend rinsing your face in your kitchen sink due to the oatmeal
