Why is the second set easier? Answering your fitness questions!

I get a ton of questions from clients and my social media followers about fitness. I’ve been in the fitness industry for 17 years!

Wow, that’s a long time. I’ve taken tons of courses and continuing ed to stay current in the fitness industry because like everything else it is always changing. I was even on the Board of Directors for the International Sports Science Association (ISSA) for a year. I feel like I’ve become a fitness expert at this point.

I’m always happy to answer your fitness questions…today I’m going to briefly discuss one I’ve been receiving a ton lately.

“How come the second set of the same exercise seems easier?”

Well to put it simply your body is really warmed up by the time the second set comes around.

Chances are you’ve already done your warm up and sometimes the first set of exercises is like an extension of the warm up.

A lot of it has to do with body recognition too. The first set your body is learning what you expect from it, by the time the second set comes around your body’s like “alright I’ve got this now, I know what you want me to do”.

For instance if you were doing TRX or box jumps or even jump squats… your body may need to learn the movement first. Your trainer will likely have to adjust your form and alignment to prevent injury and make sure you are engaging the proper muscles for that exercise.

I create custom individualized programs for each of my clients…that are different every single time we work out. Sure you may have some of the same moves because they are amazing and so beneficial for the body, but you will never do the same routine twice.
