Second Annual Night Out for Domestic Violence Awareness

Night Out for Domestic Violence Awareness

As many of you know Domestic Violence Awareness is a cause close to my heart. It is something I feel very strongly about standing up against. On average 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime. Statistics show that in the United States alone 20 people per minute are physically abused by a partner. These numbers are terrifying and outrageous! I feel that it is so important for us to start the conversation and stand up against the violence.

On October 2015, I co-hosted the first Night Out for Domestic Violence Awareness with Lauren Rossi of Greens and Glamour.  The event took place at Naples Yoga Center, and we had several sponsors and donations from the community, and we all came together to raise over $850 for The Shelter here in Naples. As soon as the event was over, Lauren and I began planning the next year’s event. We had businesses reaching out to us wanting to be involved. Change was coming. We were bringing awareness to our community.

On October 8, 2016, Lauren and I held our second annual Night Out for Domestic Violence Awareness. We had 14 generous donations from local businesses, which were raffled off, and 5 silent auction items. The event this year took place at Paradise Wine. In three hours we raised over $2,700 for The Shelter here in Naples. Lauren and I are still in awe at the generosity in our community. We had clients, friends, family, and strangers who became friends at the event. The money we raised will go to protecting and educating the women and children at The Shelter.

Thank you to all who donated and helped set up for the event. Thank you to Paradise Wine for donating the space, and help us bring awareness to our community.

Due to the out pouring generosity from our community we will be hosting our Third Annual Night Out for Domestic Violence Awareness October 2017. This event will follow a similar format as our event this year, and we will be adding more education about domestic violence and the warning signs. We have already begun accepting donations and working with local businesses. If you or someone you know is interested in being a part of our event please contact me at jennifer@leanandgreenbody.com
